Spotlight On: WILLETT HOUSE

SOME THINGS JUST GET BETTER WITH AGE

Where there’s The Willett House, there’s a way to the best Westchester Steakhouse.

When you step inside a steakhouse that looks, feels, and tastes like a steakhouse, there’s a certain satisfaction that comes over you.

Picture an authentic centuries-old red brick building with a storied past, cozy plank-floored room, pressed tin ceiling, and low-light table settings. Listen to whispers about a vintage wine cellar somewhere down below. And smell the aroma of luscious beefiness and crackling juices wafting through the air. Your imagination is ignited, and you are pleased to be standing inside the famous Willett House in Port Chester, NY.

Formerly the site of The Westchester Grain Company factory in the 1880s, The Willett House is the oldest of the Westchester steak houses, a high-end establishment featuring prime aged USDA steak and seafood. Serving up elegant private parties is also their forte, as the restoration ambiance is ideal for groups of people to enjoy phenomenal food and professional service. Nostalgically, a large mural in one of its five multi-level dining rooms recalls life in Port Chester NY circa 1900.

Its tradition, much like its menu, has only improved with age. The signature porterhouse steak for two, on the bone, is massive and mouthwatering, buttery in texture with natural juices that are enjoyed to the fullest extent. It is presented at table pre-sliced, accompanied by mounds of rich mashed potatoes and creamy spinach. We’re talking classic here, and it’s gorgeous. An exclusive tangy steak sauce further enhances the flavor, if so desired.

Every night, The Willett House serves three-course dinners for $55 per person, which includes appetizer, entree, and dessert. Whether you’re in the mood for filet mignon au poivre or prime rib of beef, garlic crusted salmon fillet or chicken francese, your order will be cooked to perfection and swiftly served for your enjoyment.

Fine dining such as the brand found at The Willett House requires an award-winning wine list. You will find it here — 35 pages filled with more than 1,000 selections from around the world in vintages that accommodate any budget or price point. Knowledgeable servers are always ready to suggest suitable pairings to heighten your enjoyment of the dining experience.

House-made desserts have achieved star status with guests and food critics alike. One in particular, the layered creme brulée cheesecake, was recently voted by Metromix as one of the best cheesecakes in the Hudson Valley!

Late afternoons, Monday through Friday, the ample bar area is the setting for Happy Hour, where much libation and a tasty bar menu is to be found. Blue Point oysters on the half shell or shrimp cocktail, French onion soup or tomato Capri, chicken salad or a turkey sandwich are all dashing options for superior snacking at this time of day.

Come to the best Westchester steakhouse, The Willett House, for classic cuisine in a reminiscent atmosphere. Since 1990, this Port Chester steakhouse has been widely acknowledged as a unique place for steaks with attitude, drinks with spirit, and staff with experience.

Whether you’re craving steak or seafood, these days it is comforting to know that some things not only stay the same, but genuinely get better as time goes by.
